The Lives of Others

this movie is just too sad, too depressing, i thought it was gonna be funnier :S

u should see this danish movie, after the wedding (starring the evil guy who cried tears of blood in casino royale, as the lead).
saw a cloud come sailing fast,
A cloud, so white and miles
away above us,
And when I looked again, it had already passed.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

- Joni Mitchell, Both Sides, Now

Ah yes, that was supposed to be very good. Will get that from the Cinemat, this local foreign-movie rental place.

East Germany *was* a bleak place, though. The movie was actually criticized for making the poet too naïve, and the Stasi agent too independent -- in the totalitarian régime of that time apparently impossibilities.

What was the quote -- in East Germany you can honestly support the régime, be intelligent, and be idealistic, but you can only be two of the three at once (like the engineering joke that you can have something fast, inexpensive, or reliable -- but not all three)

The actor who played the Hauptmann just died from stomach cancer this July. R.I.P. ..
